A second major Sacramento-area shopping center closes due to the coronavirus pandemic

Folsom Premium Outlets, one of the Sacramento area’s major shopping centers, announced it was shutting down Wednesday evening because of the coronavirus pandemic.

The outlet mall became the second major shopping center in the region to shutter to stop the spread of COVID-19, the disease caused by the coronavirus. Arden Fair mall in Sacramento announced late Tuesday it was closing until further notice.

The Folsom mall said the closure would take effect at 7 p.m. Wednesday and last until March 29.

“After extensive discussions with federal, state and local officials and in recognition of the need to address the spread of COVID-19, we will be temporarily closed,” the mall said on its website.

Another major shoppping center in the area, the Westfield Galleria at Roseville, remained open as of Wednesday but with reduced hours: 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. Monday through Saturday and noon to 6 p.m. Sunday.

The pandemic has shuttered many retailers, as well as bars, move theaters and many restaurants. The area’s Indian casinos have closed, as have some card rooms.
