Sacramento County: Report stay-at-home violations as coronavirus cases hit 53

Sacramento County has surpassed 50 confirmed coronavirus infections, authorities said Friday.

The county now has 53 reported cases of COVID-19, an increase of eight from the number given Thursday, and three confirmed deaths, according to a news release.

Authorities reminded the public that Sacramento County, as well as the entire state of California, are under mandatory stay-at-home orders. This means all individuals should stay at their place of residence except for essential activities, and that “there should not be gatherings in any formal setting,” the news release said.

That includes all bars, wineries, pubs, gyms, bingo halls and card rooms, and while takeout and home delivery may continue with social distancing measures in place, in-restaurant dining may not.

Businesses and places that are considered essential include grocery stores, retailers that sell staple supplies, gas stations, banks and several others. People may still go outdoors and exercise outside, but are required to maintain social distance of at least six feet from others outside of their household.

The county has asked those wishing to report a violation of the health order to call 311.
