Disco party at Trump golf club in L.A. ends with 16 cases of coronavirus, reports say
At least 16 coronavirus cases are linked to a disco party at the Trump National Golf Club Los Angeles, according to multiple reports.
The March 8 birthday party was for former Rancho Palos Verdes, California, Mayor Susan Brooks, The Los Angeles Times reports.
In the weeks after the disco-style 70th birthday party, 16 people have tested positive COVID-19, the newspaper reports.
The California governor has put increasingly dramatic measures in place to keep people isolated to try to slow the spread of the virus. Gov. Gavin Newsom last week issued a statewide order for people to stay at home.
The Easy Reader News, which first reported on the cluster of cases linked to the Trump golf club, said one of the guests called Brooks a week after the party to tell her he just tested positive for coronavirus.
“Maybe the virus was passed around by the hors d’oeuvres tray,” Brooks told the Easy Reader. “We don’t really know. My doctor said my party shows how easily the virus spreads and how important it is to avoid groups.”
The current Rancho Palos Verdes mayor, John Cruikshank, was at the former mayor’s party and has now tested positive for the virus, according to the city.
“Mayor Pro Tem Eric Alegria, who also attended the party, is not exhibiting symptoms and has not been tested, but has chosen to self-quarantine,” the city said in a news release.
“I am getting the rest and care I need and taking all necessary precautions as directed by my physician and public health officials,” Cruikshank said in the release.
“I hope my diagnosis underscores the need for all residents to take this crisis seriously and follow all directives from public health officials. COVID-19 is in all of our communities and we must all do our part to slow its spread,” he said.
