‘The virus is here in El Dorado County’: First community transmitted coronavirus case

Officials announced on Tuesday announced El Dorado County has its first confirmed case of community-transmitted coronavirus in a resident who acquired the COVID-19 respiratory illness from an unknown source.

County Public Health Officer Dr. Nancy Williams said officials there have prepared for community-transmitted coronavirus cases, and the first reported case underscores the importance of staying at home to slow the COVID-19 spread.

“The virus is here in El Dorado County, and it’s more important than ever not to travel to places outside the homes except for essential purposes,” Williams said in a news release.

She also said it’s critical to maintain a 6-foot distance from others and properly washing your hands when residents are conducting essential services and activities.

The community transmitted case reported on Tuesday was El Dorado County’s third confirmed coronavirus case.

Williams said the county’s confirmed cases include one transmitted through direct close contact with a person who has the virus and one that was transmitted through travel-related exposure, along with the community transmitted case.

Last week, Williams issued a directive telling residents to remain at home for about month to slow the coronavirus spread. At that time, the county did not have any confirmed coronavirus cases.

The El Dorado County Public Health agency provides updated information about COVID-19 on its website, including prevention tips and resources for older residents, along with information about schools, travel and county operations.
