The spread of the coronavirus has forced the postponement of Burning Man’s main sale originally scheduled for next week, according to The Burning Man Journal.

Registration for the Black Rock City main sale was set for Wednesday, with tickets going on sale April 8, according to the post. An alternative date has not been announced.

Though Burning Man tickets are not refundable, organizers say they’re “exploring every possible option for offering refunds if the 2020 event is canceled.” The event, which draws about 80,000 people a year, is scheduled from Aug. 30 to Sept. 7 in Nevada’s Black Rock Desert.

“We recognize how unusual this situation is, and are sensitive to the financial insecurity many in our community are facing,” the post reads. “At the same time, building a city in the desert requires year-round planning and preparation... Issuing refunds would be challenging for our nonprofit, but we are examining all possible scenarios that would enable all of us to weather this storm,” the post said.
