When will you get your stimulus check? IRS payment tracker now online
The Internal Revenue Service launched a new online tool Wednesday morning so Americans can track the status of their coronavirus stimulus payments.
The “Get my Payment” tool went live on the IRS website Wednesday, two days ahead of schedule.
The site gives people information on the status of their payment, the type of payment they will receive and if they need to give the IRS additional information. Some people might be asked to enter direct deposit information from their bank account or details from tax forms.
The coronavirus stimulus law passed recently by Congress includes $1,200 checks for Americans who make less than $75,000, plus $500 for each dependent child.
People who make more than $75,000 a year can expect less in their stimulus check.
Checks began showing up in accounts late last week, and the Treasury Department says it expects tens of millions of individual stimulus payments to go out this week.
The IRS said people who put direct deposit information on their 2018 or 2019 tax return will have the money sent straight to their accounts. The IRS also has a separate site for people to put their bank account information in to receive a direct deposit.
People who receive Social Security benefits do not need to give the IRS any additional information to receive their stimulus payment. But anyone who did not have to file a tax return for the past two years will need to give their bank account information to the IRS.
People who opt to receive paper checks may end up waiting weeks or months to get the payment in the mail.
