Debt was the topic of the day for Newsom’s press conference on Thursday.

The governor announced that 21 out of 24 of the largest student loan servicers have granted a 90-day moratorium on debt repayment, with no late fees, fines or negative credit marks.

Newsom also announced that he had signed an executive order prohibiting most garnishing orders for government stimulus checks, allowing them to be garnished only for child support, spousal support or criminal reparations.
