Hurry up and wait for haircut? Check-in maps show long waits at Texas salons, barbers

The coronavirus has people staying at home and growing a little shaggy, . which likely explains the wait times at some popular salon and barber chains in Texas.

On Friday, haircut salons were allowed to reopen as part of Gov. Greg Abbott’s plan to reopen the state.

For those who decided to venture out for a trim or highlights, the wait times in cities like Austin and Dallas were, well, a little extreme.

Some people have to wait two to three hours in order to fix their quarantine-dos.

According to KVUE in Austin, some popular hair salon chains who have online check-ins, such as Great Clips and Supercuts, were showing high wait times Friday afternoon.

Not everyone has to wait, however.

Friday morning, U.S. Sen. Ted Cruz visited Salon a la Mode in Dallas, owned by Shelly Luther, who was released from jail on Thursday after being put behind bars for reopening her business in late April, which was a violation of county and state state-at-home orders.

Her case has gained national attention, with some people, including Cruz, standing behind her, while others say she was being selfish for opening her business during the coronavirus pandemic.

“I’m proud to stand with Shelly Luther,” Cruz said following his hair cut, according to the Fort Worth Star-Telegram. “What happened to her was wrong.”

Public health experts have been vocal in voicing their concerns about how it “might be too early” for Texas businesses to partially reopen, as reported by the Star-Telegram.
