Parts of California are weeks in to Gov. Gavin Newsom’s four stage reopening plan, and even the areas hit hardest by COVID-19 have begun to emerge from stay-at-home orders.
While the California coronavirus death toll had reached 7,017 as of Monday, a closer look at recent case growth and positive test rates throughout the state can paint a clearer picture of the state’s battle against coronavirus.
The California Department of Public Health has set standards for testing, case rate and hospital availability for counties advancing through reopening. Currently, counties are expected to have less than 25 new cases per 100,000 residents and a lower than 8% positive test rate with 150 tests per 100,000 residents per day.
