You’re an ‘absolute moron’ if you politicize face masks, Arnold Schwarzenegger says
Former California governor Arnold Schwarzenegger lashed out against people making face masks a political issue hours after Gov. Gavin Newsom announced new requirements for Californians.
All Californians are now required to wear face masks in public places due to the ongoing coronavirus pandemic, the California governor ordered Thursday. The requirement calls for residents to wear masks when they are inside any indoor public place, riding on public transportation, while outdoors in public spaces and other “high-risk situations.”
The former governor and celebrity Schwarzenegger tweeted Thursday it is “100% the right move.”
“This will help us beat this terrible virus. The science is unanimous - if we all wear masks, we slow down the spread and can reopen safely,” he said. “It’s not a political issue. Anyone making it a political issue is an absolute moron who can’t read.”
Newsom later retweeted Schwarzenegger’s comments.
Schwarzenegger also shared a tweet from the U.S. Surgeon General about the importance of handwashing and social distancing.
Earlier this week, Schwarzenegger said he would not return to Gold’s Gym because it does not have a face mask requirement, according to KCBS.
As of June 17, there have been 161,099 confirmed coronavirus cases in California, according to the state health department. On Wednesday, the state eclipsed 4,000 new cases in a day for the first time, the San Fransisco Chronicle reported.
