Paesanos restaurant in Davis closes temporarily after employee infected with COVID-19

Paesanos Italian restaurant in Davis on Friday announced that it was temporarily closed after an employee tested positive for COVID-19, the infectious respiratory disease caused by the coronavirus.

Management at the restaurant, located at 139 G Street, decided “out of an abundance of precaution” to voluntarily close the eatery for two days, according to a post on the Paesanos Davis Facebook page.

During that time, the restaurant will receive “additional deep cleaning and sanitization,” the restaurant’s management team said in the Friday afternoon announcement.

The managers also said they had just received news of the positive test result for the employee, who was in self-isolation at home. The employee had not been at the restaurant for 12 days when management was informed of the diagnosis.

The Davis restaurant will reopen on Monday for outdoor dining and takeout.

Yolo County has been added to a ‘watch list’ California counties experiencing a recent surge in COVID-19 cases, causing concern that local hospitals won’t be able to handle an increasing number of infected people.

On Friday afternoon, Yolo County reported 38 new COVID-19 cases. The county set a record on its daily update Wednesday with 37 new cases reported, and then broke that record with 43 new cases Thursday.

The county now has a total of 839 COVID-19 cases since the start of the pandemic and 28 deaths due to the virus.

“We will also continue to check our employees’ temperatures as they arrive into work each day and will continue with extra cleaning and sanitation procedures,” Paesanos managers said in Friday’s announcement. “We thank you for your patience and understanding and look forward to welcoming you back.”

The Paesanos restaurant in midtown Sacramento closed for two days on June 27 after one of its employees tested positive for COVID-19.
