Unpermitted event leads to closures of Discovery Park and Tiscornia Beach on Monday
Officials have opted to close Discovery Park and Tiscornia Beach on Monday after becoming aware of a large, unpermitted event planned for that same day.
“We’ve become aware of (a large gathering) for the park on this day, which is against the current public health order. In an effort to protect public safety and health, we will be closing the park,” the Sacramento Regional Parks Department said via Twitter.
The Twitter post did not identify what event was scheduled for that day and department officials were not available for clarification.
The department also cited a sewer line project slated for Monday as another reason for the closure. The multi-use trail will remain open and the park will reopen on Tuesday, Aug. 11.
This isn’t the first time the popular riverfront area has been closed due to public health concerns. Officials closed both spots in May in response to events planned there amid the coronavirus pandemic.
