Need a free N95 mask? Here’s which Sacramento-area pharmacies have them in stock
Looking for a free government-issued N95 mask at a pharmacy in the Sacramento area?
Pharmacies that partner with the Federal Retail Pharmacy Program are distributing free masks approved by the National Institute for Occupational Safety and Heath, according to the Health Resources and Services Administration.
And while some pharmacies may be listed, it doesn’t mean they have any in stock.
A few participating health entities that either aren’t distributing the free masks yet or are out of stock in the Sacramento-area include CVS, Walmart and Costco.
Although the program kicked off in late January, it’s not expected to be fully up and running until later this month. Then, HRSA anticipates masks will be available to all health center and similar facilities that wish to order them.
Health officials say N95 masks have the highest level of protection against COVID-19, compared to other types of face coverings.
In the meantime, The Bee reached out to roughly 20 area pharmacies to confirm availability. Just remember, masks are limited to three per person. Here’s who has them:
RITE AID
Free N95 masks are available three per person and are located at the register.

WALGREENS
Walgreens offers free N95 masks in various sizes while supplies last. According to a January press release, all Walgreens locations will receive masks by mid-February.
In addition to in-store signs indicating free masks are available, check the N95 mask program store locator as new shipments arrive.
