Sacramento County changing way it updates COVID dashboards. Check latest by ZIP code

As reported COVID-19 infections have been tumbling down since a Jan. 10 high, the state has loosened its mask requirements and the CDC is expected to ease guidelines Friday. In Sacramento County: We’ll soon stop seeing daily case updates.

Seven-day case averages in the county have returned to triple digits. The slowdown of cases has been seen throughout the country.

But this doesn’t mean the virus is leaving, and California announced its longterm COVID plan this month. .

While cases are decreasing, Sacramento County is still seeing infections.

According to the COVID dashboard provided by Sacramento County’s public health department, the county has a total of 277,531 reported coronavirus cases and almost 3,000 deaths, as of Feb. 25. Currently, case and death data is updated daily on weekdays; however, starting next Monday, these datapoints will be updated weekly on Wednesdays.

“State and National public health agencies are transitioning away from universal case investigation and contact tracing of individual COVID-19 cases to focus on the surveillance and prevention of severe cases, and on the vulnerable population,” the county dashboard reads.

California announced changes in COVID-19 reporting requirements earlier this month, and Sacramento County Public Health will be make the changes to its epidemiology dashboards next week.

As of Feb. 21, the seven-day average is 274 cases, with a case rate of 17.6 per 100,000.
