You can now order another set of free COVID test kits. How to request yours
You can now request another round of free COVID-19 test kits online.
People in the U.S. who already ordered the at-home kits can now get more sent to their homes, President Joe Biden said in a video posted to Twitter on March 7.
If you haven’t ordered tests for your household, the change also allows you to order two sets of them at the same time, the Biden administration told McClatchy News in an email. Each set comes with four tests.
Those interested in ordering a first or second round of tests can visit covidtests.gov. People can also place orders on the phone by calling 800-232-0233, McClatchy News reported in January.
This week’s change comes after the federal government in January rolled out an effort that allowed every home in the nation to request COVID-19 tests. The initial orders contained four testing kits delivered through the U.S. Postal Service.
On March 1, Biden during his State of the Union address announced that people who already ordered the kits would be able to request more of them.
The kits contain rapid antigen tests, which people can administer themselves before getting results about 30 minutes later. People are urged to use at-home tests before gatherings, at least five days after contact with a person who tested positive for COVID-19 and while having coronavirus symptoms, which include cough and fever.
When you get your test kit in the mail, experts urge bringing the delivery inside right away to avoid potential issues with the results. Also, it’s recommended to keep at-home kits away from children because a chemical in them can make people sick if consumed, McClatchy News reported in February.
