COVID-19 cases in California and across the country are on the rise again.
The statewide case rate is 34.6 per 100,000, according to a Friday update from the California Department of Public Health.
Sacramento County is among the hardest hit from the surge, with among the highest infection rates in the state at 13.1%, which represents an approximate one percentage point increase from the last seven-day rate, state health officials reported.
On Thursday, CDC moved Sacramento, El Dorado, Placer, Yolo and nine other counties into the high community level, in which masks should be worn in indoor public settings.

Case numbers fluctuate every few days as state health officials report updated numbers only Tuesdays and Fridays.
Sacramento County’s case rate per 100,000 cases is 36.7, according the latest update. The county’s case rate has been climbing since early April, and the rate reported May 1 was 11.5.
