The Last Supper Society is a Sacramento-based duo who have spent 2021 creating culinary events that bind community, culture and food together for a unique dining experience.

They have traveled to different cities throughout the state this year organizing the dining experiences.

This New Year’s Eve, they are bringing their final gathering of the year back home to Sacramento in an event called “Last Supper, First Testament” – a two-part event that will include a six-course dinner from chef Byron Hughes.

Last Supper Society is calling the last meal of the year a “sacred undertaking.” The motivation is to serve food for nourishment, strength and prosperity as guests look forward to the new year.

On Hughes’ menu will be food items that mirror Black American traditions and Southern comfort food, a derivative of the African diaspora influence. To accompany the meal, there will be sommelier chosen wine pairings and cocktails from Beam Suntory.

“We’re taking inspiration from the Black Southern tradition. Foods that represent different colors and represent prosperity into the new year (and) to bring good luck and prosperity into the new year,” said Ryan Royster, co-founder of Last Supper Society. “Byron’s doing a creative take on that but filtered through the Last Supper Society lens so that it’s always going to be blacker and (more) creative.”

The event will take place on Dec. 31 from 6:30 p.m. to 9 p.m at The Atrium at Woodlake, located at 1431 Del Paso Blvd.

Part two of the event is the “First Testament” after-party hosted by Sacramento-based DJ quartet, BaseOne.Fm, from 9 p.m. to 1:30 a.m.

Guests will be invited to enjoy a cocktail reception featuring three premium bars, a VIP lounge and stay for the New Year’s Balloon Drop and midnight toast.

“We’re going to give you your last supper to close out 2021 and (BaseOne.FM) they’re going to give you your first memory of 2022, starting off on a positive note, it is that ‘good vibes only’ energy being carried into the new year,” said Royster. “No detail is being unchecked, so everyone has the most amazing experience walking into 2022.”

Up to 100 tickets are being sold for the dining event; a dinner ticket will guarantee you entry for the after-party. An additional 200 tickets will be sold for entry into the after-party. Tickets are available for purchase at www.exploretock.com/lastsuppersociety.
