MLB’s Jerry Manuel to host baseball recruiting event at his Sacramento-area school
Young baseball players throughout Northern California will have an opportunity to develop skills and gain exposure through a Major League Baseball camp held at Jerry Manuel’s charter school in Elverta on Saturday.
Baseball players in eighth and ninth grades will meet at 9 a.m. Saturday on the Jerry Manuel Foundation Field, located at 8920 Elwyn Drive in Elverta.
The workouts and advanced developmental programs are designed to identify diverse baseball talents in the Sacramento area.
A Sacramento resident and former MLB manager, Jerry Manuel is a consultant for the big leagues and holds a leadership position in the ID Tour, which is sponsored by MLB.
Athletes will be scouted by player evaluation and development analytic services provided by Diamond Kinetics, a youth development platform of MLB.
A select group of players will be invited to future MLB Develops camps and programs such as the Breakthrough Series, the Dream Series and the Hank Aaron Invitational. Most of the events are held in Vero Beach, Florida, at the Jackie Robinson Training Complex.
The ID Tour is a 12-city tour across the country, particularly recruiting African-American and Latino athletes, in an effort to continue to diversify the game of baseball at the professional level.
The ID Tour concludes its California visit Sunday in Pittsburg. The tour plans to visit cities in Texas, Mississippi, Alabama, North Carolina, Pennsylvania, New York and Washington D.C.
