Free Oak Park event mixes music and fun with business tips for Sacramento entrepreneurs
All ages are welcome at a free community event in Oak Park called “The Creative Exchange: Music, Art, Entertainment and Production” on Saturday June 4, from 8:30 a.m. to 6 p.m.
It has something for everyone as there will be different forums on various topics on music and film production, songwriting, lifestyles of social influencers and financial literacy, including cryptocurrency, NFT’s, and more.
Filmmakers, producers, and artists will share their stories of how they stayed afloat during the COVID-19 pandemic. They want to help other creative professionals by providing knowledge and guidance on the industry and entrepreneurship.
The events will occupy McGeorge School of Law and McClatchy Park at 3200 5th Avenue, where there will also be a Kids Activity Zone with games, arts and crafts, including face painting.
Lively activities are scheduled throughout the day, including the Battle of the Barbershops Hoop Tournament and the ‘You Got Served’ dance performance.
The event is hosted by California Black Chamber of Commerce President Jay King in partnership with UC Davis Move It Up Coalition, Center for Reducing Health Disparities, Sacramento County of Public Health, California Department of Public Health, VaxBlackSac and the Sacramento Black Media Coalition.
King regularly hosted these ‘Creative Exchange’ events, until they were placed on hold during the rise of COVID-19. He said this year will be bigger and better.
“Musicians, songwriters, artists, entertainers and athletes are surviving and thriving through the pandemic,” said King, in a press release. “With the support of UC Davis and the Sacramento Black Media Coalition, I can now expand my support of their efforts as creatives provide the foundation for many small business enterprises.”
UC Davis Health will administer Pfizer vaccines and boosters onsite from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. for individuals ages 5 and up.
King plans to have KBLA 1580 owner and host Tavis Smiley as a guest speaker. He plans to speak about how COVID-19 is affecting marginalized communities.
Smiley, a former talk show host on BET and PBS, purchased KBLA Talk 1580 in November of 2020, launching the first ever Black-owned talk radio station in Los Angeles. He is one of TIME magazine’s “100 Most Influential People In The World.”
“We’ve always had notables join us in the past and this year is no different,” said King. “Our distinguished guest, Tavis Smiley, will lend his incredible insight and wisdom to attendees as we all continue to navigate the aftermath of Covid.”
