New Sacramento boutique opens in Oak Park with a mission to empower women-owned businesses
Brittany Claypool recently cut a ribbon to celebrate her newly opened business, a woman-empowered boutique in Oak Park.
She describes the products at her new retail consignment shop as “for her, by her.” Her World in the 3400 block of Broadway, hosts 10 different brands created by women of color entrepreneurs.
Some of the items include self-care products, beauty products and apparel for women.
“It’s a one stop shop for her, while keeping him in mind,” Claypool said. “We also have items for men (like) apparel and home goods, essentially whatever you need, we got what you’re looking for.”
The store hours are Wednesday to Sunday from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m.
For Claypool, the opening was three years in the making.
In 2019, she launched Her World and started by providing mentorship through digital classes and hosting monthly meetups for women in business.
She wanted to be a catalyst in helping women of color obtain the resources they needed to run a successful business and realize their dreams.
She envisioned what the brick-and-mortar would look like as she strived to become a source for business and a breath of inspiration.
“As a Black woman in the heart of Oak Park, being able to create space for my sisters is the main goal. It’s purpose driven. I feel amazing, I feel successful. I feel as if this is what I was destined to do, it’s absolutely divine,” said Claypool.
Claypool, 33, is originally from Seaside near Monterey Bay. In 2002, she moved to south Sacramento where she spent her late teenage years and most of her adult life.
For the previous three years, she was a brand strategist for the Oak Park Brewery. She fell in love with the area’s mom-and-pop shops and family-owned businesses that reminded her of Seaside.
After becoming a recipient of a small business grant from the Oak Park Business Association, her dreams of owning a brick-and-mortar store would come to fruition.
Through her business, she’s helping to develop other businesses by women of color and prepare their products for retail.
She said the core mission of Her World is her message to Black women, women of color, and young women aspiring to become entrepreneurs that “there is no ceiling, there’s no limit to what you can do, and that everything that you need is already within”.
