This free event is providing mentorship to young males. How to register your child.
A youth event in Sacramento invites young males between 6th and 12th grade to sign up for a free leadership summit that will expose them to mentorship from individuals who have garnered success throughout their lives.
The 8th Annual R.E.AL. Manhood 101 Youth Leadership Summit and College Day will be held at Sacramento State in the University Union, located at 6000 J Street, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. on May 19.
Dwight Taylor, the event organizer, is also a mentor whose main initiative is to help young teens be “R.E.A.L,” an acronym that stands for reject passivity, expect the greater reward, accept responsibility, and lead courageously.
“The goal is for them to be able to become aware, then be able to apply those things in their daily lives because we believe that young kings, due to their decisions under the R.E.A.L. framework, (will) have a better opportunity of making the best decisions than if they didn’t have that framework,” Taylor said.
The event will be their first in-person event in three years, following the pandemic.
The purpose of the event is to empower next generation.
The six-hour event will offer live entertainment, keynote speakers, college exposure, a variety of workshops. The workshops will focus on health and wellness, financial literacy and how to tie a tie.
“We definitely understand the power of having men in the lives of young boys,” Taylor said. “The bigger piece for me specifically is that they’re going to have a connection to at least one thing that they can take with them after they leave from here.”
The event is free for registered attendees. Registration is required for all attendees, with or without a student.
Adult family members, teachers, counselors, coaches, and mentors of young males are also welcome to attend the event.
