Nominate Asian and Pacific Islander leaders for The Bee’s Change Maker series

A change maker can be a teacher who pours their soul into their students, and they can be an organizer who brings light to an issue affecting their local neighborhood. Change makers come in many shapes and sizes, and we want to honor as many as we can.

The Sacramento Bee’s Equity Lab will partner with the Nehemiah Emerging Leaders Program (NELP) for the third iteration of the Change Maker series.

The collaboration highlights those in the Sacramento region who lead with purpose. We have celebrated pioneers in the Latino, Black and Asian American and Pacific Islander communities since 2022. At this time, we’ve honored 135 individuals, who have each made a substantial change in the lives of others.

Now, it’s your turn to help us find the next 20. For the next month, the AAPI Change Maker nomination form will be collecting nominations for thoughtful community members transforming the capital region.

Nominees should be problem-solvers. They find solutions to critical issues through community organization, education, arts and entertainment, entrepreneurship, law, medicine and health care, science, politics, nonprofit leadership or activism.

Meet the past cohorts of AAPI Change Makers from 2022 and 2023.

A change maker doesn’t need to be in a position of power to make a difference. Nominees can be community leaders or advocates.

The deadline to submit a nomination is June 30.
