Sacramento’s 26th annual Sweet Potato Festival drew hundreds of people Saturday to the Sam and Bonnie Pannell Community Center on Meadowview Road.

Bands and dancers took to the stage while vendors hawked wares. And members of the Sacramento Valley Section of the National Council of Negro Women, an organization founded in 1935, sold sweet potato pies to raise money to help schools and community groups.

One highlight was the pie judging, with stiff competition among home bakers.
