McCartney opens Sacramento’s new downtown arena

The $557 million Golden 1 Center debuts with the first of two performances this week by Paul McCartney. The former Beatle, 74, brings his “One on One” tour to Sacramento – his first concert in the state capital in more than a decade. The set list includes dozens of hits spanning 50-plus years of McCartney’s legendary career. Tuesday’s show is sold out, though a few higher-priced tickets ($165, $250) were still available for Wednesday’s performance, as of 5 p.m. Monday, from Ticketmaster. Both shows start at 8 p.m. Nine other shows are booked on the arena’s calendar, including sold-out concerts by Maroon 5 on Oct. 15 and Jimmy Buffett on Oct. 20. The NBA’s Sacramento Kings start their preseason at Golden 1 Center on Oct. 10.

Sacramento County supervisors receive report on child deaths

The Sacramento County Child Death Review Team will present its 2013-14 report to Sacramento County supervisors. The report contains findings and recommendations for preventing future child deaths. This is the 25th year the CDRT has investigated, analyzed and reported the circumstances that led to each child death in the county. Its goal has been to identify how and why children die in order to help create and implement strategies to prevent future child deaths. The supervisors meet in their chambers in the county administration building, 700 H St., Sacramento, at 9:30 a.m. The report is scheduled for 9:45.

Supervisors in Yolo envision county’s future

The Yolo County Board of Supervisors will conduct a strategic planning session on county goals that include improving community health, reducing homelessness, ensuring water reliability, and nurturing agriculture and ag-related businesses. The 9 a.m. meeting is being held at Yolo County Housing, 147 Main St., Woodland, and will not be broadcast via audio or video.
