Free flowers on J Street help ‘Petal It Forward’
Relles Florist, a midtown Sacramento institution, will celebrate a milestone Wednesday with random acts of flowers.
As part of the Society of American Florists’ “Petal It Forward” program, the longtime florist plans to give away hundreds of bouquets on J Street in midtown Sacramento from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Wednesday. That date also marks the shop’s 70th anniversary. Located at 2400 J St., Relles Florist has been owned and operated by the same family for three generations.
Each recipient will actually get two free bouquets – one to keep, the other to share. They’re also invited to “share” their experience on social media with the hashtags “#petalitforward” and “#rellesflorist.”
“The impact of giving or receiving flowers is powerful and memorable,” said Jim Relles, president of Relles Florist. “It can turn an ordinary day into an extraordinary one.”
As part of its anniversary celebration, the business wanted to spread some joy, Relles explained. Flowers given “just because” – as a token untied to a holiday or special occasion – are particularly welcome because they’re not expected.
“People love to get flowers ‘just because,’ ” he said. “So we wanted to create random smiles (Wednesday) and give people a chance to do the same for someone else.”
