Free cancer symposium
Cancer doctors from across Sacramento will discuss the challenges and successes of the “dreaded disease” during a free Community Cancer Symposium in Elk Grove. Open to medical professionals as well as patients, the symposium is scheduled from 9 a.m. to noon at Creekside Christian Church, 8939 E. Stockton Blvd. Nine oncology specialists from Sutter Health, UC Davis, Dignity Health and Kaiser Permanente will cover new research, immunotherapy, clinical trials and screenings across a range of cancers, including lung, brain, breast and prostate cancer. Several cancer survivors will also share their stories. Locals honored at wall
The Carmichael Recreation and Park District hosts the Wall of Honor, an annual event honoring local heroes. The event, scheduled at 10 a.m. at Patriots Park, 6825 Palm Ave., recognizes members of the community who have given their lives in the line of duty. Members are represented from all areas of service, including the California Highway Patrol, Sacramento County Sheriff’s Department, Sacramento Metropolitan Fire District and the U.S. military.
