Elk Grove gas leak affects 530 PG&E customers

More than 500 Elk Grove Pacific Gas and Electric Co. customers will be without gas service until 10 p.m. tonight as crews repair as gas leak on Gerber Road near Elk Grove-Florin Road.

Construction workers were believed to have caused the leak about 2 p.m., puncturing an 8-inch distribution gas line on Gerber about a half-mile east of Elk Grove-Florin Road, said Brandi Ehlers, PG&E spokeswoman.

Additionally, 50 gas service representatives are headed to Gerber and Elk Grove-Florin roads to help customers relight pilot lights once repairs are completed. Representatives will also be available Saturday, Ehlers said.
