A.M. Sacramento: Here’s what you need to know for Saturday

Good morning. Here’s what you need to know today:

Weather lead in: Most of the weather activity today will occur in the Sierra. Snow showers are forecast, with the possibility for 4 to 8 inches of snow at about the 5,500-foot level. A winter weather advisory is in effect until 5 p.m. today. In Sacramento, partly cloudy skies and high temperatures in the low 60s are forecast today.

Mutilations a mystery: A series of livestock mutilations have perplexed Sacramento investigators, who cannot explain why headless animals are being dumped in the city. The most recent discovery came Friday, when the bodies of two very young goats that had been decapitated were found shortly before 4 p.m. at the railroad tracks at 19th and V streets in Sacramento.

Tall drink of water: A local group affiliated with United Way plans to install “hydration stations” offering cold water and reusable water bottles to elementary students throughout the Robla School District. The initiative will promote hydration and healthy beverage choices among students and staff.

Suds flow: Sacramento Beer Week continues. This year’s event is bigger, more diverse and, yes, more daunting than ever.
