Time to light up the Christmas trees

Four community Christmas-tree-lighting ceremonies are scheduled Thursday. Here are the details:

▪ The Carmichael Recreation and Park District’s celebration takes place from 5 to 8 p.m. at Carmichael Park, 5750 Grant Ave. Tree lighting is planned at 6:15 p.m. There will be live music, crafts, vendors and food trucks. Santa Claus will also be on hand and will be available for visits and photos. Visits with Santa are free, but participants are asked to donate one canned good per child. All food collected will be donated to Sacramento Food Bank and Family Services. Go to carmichaelpark.com for more information.

▪ The 35th annual downtown Davis festivities begin at 6 p.m. Highlights include a children’s candlelight parade, which steps off at 6 p.m. at 620 G St. and follows a Unitrans double-decker bus and firetruck. The Davis Children’s Chorale will perform at 6 p.m. on the E Street Plaza stage. The Davis High School Jazz Choir will perform immediately before the tree lighting, which begins at 6:30 p.m. in E Street Plaza by members of the City Council. There will also be free showings of “How The Grinch Stole Christmas” at 6, 6:40 and 8:20 p.m. at the Varsity Theatre, 616 Second St. Go to cityofdavis.org for more information.

▪ The 20th annual Citrus Heights ceremony is scheduled for 6:30 p.m. at City Hall, 6360 Fountain Square Drive. There will be free refreshments, train rides and pictures with Santa Claus. Go to www.citrusheights.net for more information.

▪ Roseville’s Christmas tree will be lit during a gathering from 6 to 8 p.m. at Vernon Street Town Square, 311 Vernon St. The event includes visits with Santa Claus, a children’s activity zone, music, food and more. Go to www.roseville.ca.us/events for more information.
