Today in Sacramento: Here’s what you need to know for Friday

Sexual assault sentencing scheduled

Joseph Brian Cox, who pleaded guilty to multiple sexual assault charges involving a 14-year-old girl 20 years ago, faces sentencing Friday in Sacramento Superior Court. He broke into the girl’s home, tied up her mother and younger sister and held them at gunpoint during the attack. He could face up to 20 years in prison. DNA tests on a cigarette butt recovered from the teen's bedroom and a roll of tape used to bind Cox’s victims ultimately led to his arrest in January 2015. Cox, 35, was 14 when the attack occurred.
