Pioneers celebrated in Coloma
Thousands of visitors are expected at the Marshall Gold Discovery State Historic Park in Coloma, where free activities will celebrate pioneer history. Last year’s Pioneer History Day drew between 4,000 and 5,000 people, according to organizers. While the event is free, there is an $8 parking fee. Among the attractions: musical performers on two stages, wagon rides, doll- and brick-making, gold panning and actors in costumes reminiscent of the 1800s. A cannon will shoot penny candy for children to gather. The day begins at 9 a.m. and continues to 3 p.m. A 10 a.m. parade will be followed by a flag posting and musket salute.
