Pioneers celebrated in Coloma
Thousands of visitors are expected at the Marshall Gold Discovery State Historic Park in Coloma, where free activities will celebrate pioneer history. Last year’s Pioneer History Day drew between 4,000 and 5,000 people, according to organizers. While the event is free, there is an $8 parking fee. Among the attractions: musical performers on two stages, wagon rides, doll- and brick-making, gold panning and actors in costumes reminiscent of the 1800s. A cannon will shoot penny candy for children to gather. The day begins at 9 a.m. and continues to 3 p.m. A 10 a.m. parade will be followed by a flag posting and musket salute. Fire station open house
The Sacramento Fire Department hosts an open house from 2 to 4 p.m. at Station 10, 5642 66th St., near Fruitridge Road.
Mermaids in Old Sacramento
The seventh annual Sacramento Promenade of Mermaids takes place at 1 p.m. along the boardwalks of Old Sacramento. The promenade will begin and end at Riverfront Park, 1000 Front St. Go to https://sacramentopromenadeofmermaids.com for more information.
Tour Colonial Heights gardens

Wheels Day at museum
At Wheels Day, visitors can take a ride on a child-sized train and take a close-up look at a fire engine, recycling truck and other vehicles. Motorcycle racers at Cal Expo
The Sacramento Mile motorcycle racing competition begins at 6 p.m. at the racetrack at Cal Expo, 1600 Exposition Blvd. The event features the AFT singles and AFT twins competitions. Gates open at 3 p.m. Go to http://sactomile.com/schedule for more information.
River Cats take on Sounds
The Sacramento River Cats play the Nashville Sounds at 7:05 p.m. at Raley Field.
Republic FC hosts Roughnecks
