Ceremony for Maritime Day

National Maritime Day will be celebrated with a ceremony at 11 a.m. adjacent to the Sacramento Maritime Monument on the promenade on the east bank of the Sacramento River between the Tower Bridge and Embassy Suites. The Navy League Pacific Central Region and Sacramento Valley Chapter of the American Merchant Marine Veterans are sponsoring the free event.

Cowboy poet at workshop

The Yolo County Library hosts a reading and workshop with cowboy poet Larry Maurice from 7 to 9 p.m. in the Blanchard Room of the Mary L. Stephens Davis Branch Library, 315 E. 14th St., Davis. Maurice is a cowboy, horse wrangler and packer. The event is free, and no reservations are required. Go to www.yolocountylibrary.org and click on “events” for more information.

Story time at railroad museum

The California State Railroad Museum sponsors a weekly program for young children (ages 2-5) from 11 a.m. to noon. Museum volunteers read a different railroad-related book each month and afterward, little ones can enjoy the museum with their parents. The event is free with museum admission.

River Cats play Sounds

The Sacramento River Cats host the Nashville Sounds at 7:05 p.m. at Raley Field.
