Scared of spiders? Watch out at this popular recreation spot
Beware Folsom Lake visitors: It’s tarantula season in the area.
A tweet from Folsom Lake’s twitter account on Saturday showed a large tarantula in the grass.
While tarantulas may be intimidating and creepy-looking, they don’t pose a huge threat to humans, according to the National Wildlife Federation. Tarantula venom is not toxic enough to harm a human.
According to the Bee’s Cathy Locke, one of the common species of tarantula inhabiting the Folsom area is named after Johnny Cash.
Chris Hamilton, a researcher at Auburn University, said he has handled thousands of the tarantulas and has never been bitten.
