A surprise party for a Diamond Springs boy is likely to get crowded, with 250 pug owners already saying they will be there with dogs in tow.

Hayden Baumunk has autism and nothing warms his heart like a bug-eyed pug. The pooches are his obsession.

Hayden, 12, and his mother figured the best way he could experience his birthday was to have a whole bunch of pugs around him. His dream is to sprawl on the floor and have the little dogs surround him.

The pug party envisioned for Hayden is scheduled to take place from noon to 3 p.m. Saturday at Pet Food Express, 1009 Galleria Blvd., Roseville. The event has caught on in a big way, according to Pet Rescue of Sacramento, the party coordinator.

Each day, more pug owners are stepping up and saying they will attend. So far, at least 250 pug owners have RSVP’d.

Hayden’s actual 12th birthday was June 9. If you can’t attend, send Hayden a pug-themed card to P.O. Box 973, Diamond Springs, 95619.
