Applause for the week of March 23

Kudos to: Sacramento police officers

Accomplishment: After 5-year-old’s bike is stolen, officers come through

Details: The boy was riding his bike with his mother close by in North Sacramento when a man in a pickup stopped, took the bike from the child and then drove away with it. In less than 24 hours, officers got a new bike through the SPD Cops and Clergy program and presented it to the youngster.

Kudos to: Scouts Cameron Vansoest, Abraham Fong, Zachary Kazee and Matthew Signorotti

Accomplishment: Became Eagle Scouts

Details: The award requires many years of troop participation, earning merit badges and hours of community service, including completion of an Eagle project. The four new Eagle Scouts of Troop 259 chose projects that benefited the Nimbus Fish Hatchery, Matsuyama Elementary, Oak Park Sol Community Garden and First Tee of Sacramento at William Land Park.

Kudos to: Lori Easterwood and Jessica Zaker, librarians

Accomplishment: Received “Movers and Shakers” award from Library Journal

Details: Easterwood and Zaker were recognized for their partnership, which has resulted in innovative services at the Sacramento Public Library. Among their efforts: programs to connect with people in their 20s and 30s, an outreach campaign to LGBT patrons and a project that made items such as sewing machines, tools and video games available for checkout.
