Gas pipeline upgrade planned for portion of Folsom

PG&E plans to upgrade a large section of natural gas pipeline in Folsom beginning later this month.

The utility company plans to replace 4,600 feet of gas distribution main pipeline, work that should continue through August. The replacement project is being done for safety and capacity reasons.

The pipeline work will generally occur Sunday through Thursday between 8 p.m. to 6 a.m. in the area of Folsom-Auburn Road from Greenback Lane to Oak Avenue. Once that section is done, work will occur Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Oak Avenue.

Brief interruption of gas service may occur when the old pipelines are taken out and new lines installed.

Also, according to Pacific Gas and Electric Co., crews will vent natural gas from pipelines as the project goes along. When that work happens, natural gas might be smelled and the venting sound might be heard. The natural gas will dissipate and will not be harmful, according to the company.
