CA Lottery sees Powerball and Mega Millions jackpots pass $300 million at same time
For the first time in California Lottery history, the Powerball and Mega Millions jackpots both eclipsed $300 million at the same time.
The Mega Millions jackpot increased from $323 million to $350 million and the Powerball jackpot increased from $286 million to $307 million, according to a release from CA Lottery. The Mega Million jackpot is the 7th largest in game history.
California’s jackpot game, SuperLotto Plus, also saw its jackpot increase to $62 million for Wednesday’s draw. Between the three jackpots, there is $719 million up for grabs, according to the release.
The largest Powerball jackpot ever was $1.6 billion in January 2016, according to CNN Money. The jackpot was split three ways.
The largest Mega Millions jackpot ever was $656 million and was split between three winners, according to CNN Money.
California officially joined Mega Millions in 2005 and joined Powerball in 2013. Both jackpot games are played in 44 states, according to the release.
