Power to 79,000 PG&E customers restored in Butte County
Power has been restored to 79,000 customers of Pacific Gas & Electric Co. in Butte County after a Monday morning outage.
The power failure occurred at about 8:15 a.m. Monday when an insulator failed on a transformer at a PG&E Table Mountain substation near Oroville, according to a utility spokesman.
The outage primarily affected utility customers in Chico, Paradise and Magalia. Other parts of the county were also affected, including portions of Oroville and Durham.
The Chico State University campus was also left without power.
Crews began the main restoration of power at about 11:30 a.m. Power was restored by about noon, according to PG&E.
Utility experts were investigating what caused the insulator to fail.
