Details: The $45,000 prize honors faculty members who are both exceptional teachers and scholars. History scholar Walker is the author of several books that take on what he considers to be simplistic views on race and black history.
Kudos to: Groups, agencies and individuals who embrace transit
Accomplishment: Received TransitAction awards
Details: The Regional Transit awards for making a positive impact when it comes to public transit went to UC Davis Health System, City Year Sacramento, Sacramento County Department of Transportation, Warehouse Artist Lofts, Rivkah Sass and Sacramento County Supervisor Phil Serna.
Kudos to: The late Hazel Cramer
Accomplishment: Endowed chair at Sacramento State
Details: A $1 million gift from Cramer’s estate created an endowed chair in the university’s College of Social Sciences and Interdisciplinary Studies. The gift will allow the campus to bring in an expert in the discipline and expand offerings for students.
