AM Sacramento: Here’s what you need to know for Friday

Good morning. Here’s what you need to know today, Friday, April 17:

Sunny in Sacramento: A warm day and cool evening are expected Friday, with lots of sunshine today and clear skies tonight, according to the National Weather Service. A high temperature near 85 is expected today in Sacramento, with a west northwest wind of 5 mph in the afternoon, and a low of 50 degrees tonight. Sunny skies and warm weather will continue through the weekend, with highs on Saturday and Sunday near 87 and lows around 50.

Alternate route advised: Truckers and Davis-Solano County travelers headed toward the Sacramento International Airport who normally use eastbound Interstate 80 through West Sacramento are advised by the state Department of Transportation to use an alternate route to avoid congestion during the 55-hour closure from 10 p.m. today to 5 a.m. Monday. Take northbound Highway 113 to Woodland and go south onto Interstate 5 to the airport or Interstate 80 in Sacramento, Caltrans advises.

Motorists beware: The Sacramento Police Department will conduct a sobriety and driver license checkpoint today on Marysville Boulevard near Harris Avenue in the Del Paso Heights area. It will begin at 7:30 p.m. and will run for five to seven hours. Officers will be looking for signs of alcohol and/or drug impairment with officers checking drivers for proper licensing.

Traders’ fair at the fort: A three-day traders’ fair and historic demonstrations days will begin today from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. at Sutter’s Fort State Historical Monument, 2701 L St. in Sacramento.
