Good morning. Here’s what you need to know today, Saturday, April 18:

Warm weekend: Northern California will enjoy sunshine and warm days this weekend in advance of slight cooling next week, according to the National Weather Service. A high temperature near 88 degrees under clear skies is expected today in Sacramento, with a west wind of 5 mph in the afternoon, the weather service said. The low will be near 52 degrees with calm wind in the evening.

Picnic Day in Davis: UC Davis Picnic Day returns today beginning at 9 a.m. at the campus, 1 Shields Drive. More than 200 events will take place throughout the campus, including exhibits, shows, competitions, demonstrations, entertainment and more. All events and parking are free.

Classics in Carmichael: The annual Carmichael Elks Classic Car Show is planned from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. today at the Elks Lodge, 5631 Cypress Ave. Hot rods, pickup trucks, muscle cars and cruisers will be featured. There also will be a car parts-only swap meet. Proceeds will benefit the Carmichael Elks Lodge #2103.

Alternate route advised: Truckers and Davis-Solano County travelers headed toward the Sacramento International Airport who normally use eastbound Interstate 80 through West Sacramento are advised by the state Department of Transportation to use an alternate route to avoid congestion during the 55-hour closure that is scheduled to last unitl 5 a.m. Monday. Take northbound Highway 113 to Woodland and go south onto Interstate 5 to the airport or Interstate 80 in Sacramento, Caltrans advises.

Attention, stargazers: Take advantage of the new moon at a free star-gazing event tonight with UC Davis physicist Dan Phillips.
