AM Sacramento: Here’s what you need to know for Thursday

Good morning. Here’s what you need to know today, Thursday, April 23:

Thunderstorms tonight?: Another warm day is forecast for Thursday in Sacramento. A high of 80 degrees is expected, which would match the maximum temperature on Wednesday. There might be a little surprise later when the National Weather Service says Sacramento residents could see lightning in the night sky.

Roadway cleanups: State Department of Transportation maintenance crews will be picking up litter on state highways today to celebrate Keep America Beautiful’s Great American Cleanup and to honor Earth Day. The annual litter collection event is aimed at increasing public awareness on the volume and cost associated with removing trash along state highways. During the day, maintenance crews from Caltrans District 3 will be removing litter and debris discarded by the public along Interstate 5 near Arena Boulevard in Sacramento County and between the Yolo Bypass and County Road 105 in Yolo County.

More Earth Day: Sierra College will also honor Earth Day with nature trail guided walks, student projects, a climbing wall and speakers from 10 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. today at the campus, 5000 Rocklin Road.

Fairytale fundraiser: Fairytale Town’s “Mad Hatter Meets The Great Gatsby Fundraiser” is scheduled from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m. today at the Sacramento Masonic Temple, 1123 J St. There will be desserts, chocolate delicacies, wine and food tastings and more.
