Car crashing into a pole leaves about 1,500 SMUD customers without power

A car crashing into a pole Saturday afternoon left about 1,500 north Sacramento customers without electric power, according to the Sacramento Municipal Utility District.

SMUD crews said a car crashed into a pole at Orange Grove Avenue and Industry Drive at 2:46 p.m., causing the outage.

SMUD issued a public notice shortly after 3 p.m., with work crews on the scene. The outage area straddled Rio Linda Boulevard south of Arcade Boulevard.

The utility said power was restored to the bulk of customers by 4 p.m., but about a dozen will not get power back until about 10:40 p.m. Saturday.

SMUD has an “outage map” on its website, smud.org.
