Accomplishment: Celebrating 35 years of serving residents
Details: After going through a tough training and testing program, master gardeners help instruct the public about green waste reduction, water-wise practices, smart pesticide use, water-efficient plants and growing their own food. They guide school gardening programs and assist county residents with numerous seminars, workshops and speaking engagements.
Kudos to: Three young artists in mosquito-prevention art contest
Accomplishment: Won first place in respective grade categories
Details: The Sacramento-Yolo Mosquito and Vector Control contest challenges students to use art to encourage everyone to “fight the bite” in the effort to prevent the spread of West Nile virus. The winners are Evander Ngo from Roy Herburger Elementary, Justin Wong from Elliott Ranch Elementary and Kaying Xiong from Monterey Trail High School.
