Good morning. Here’s what you need to know today, April 29, 2015:

Tomato-planting temperatures: This is a great week for planting tomatoes. The ground has warmed enough for the plants to thrive and the National Weather Service predicts that the remainder of the week will continue to be toasty. So get those seedlings in the ground and water wisely. The high on Wednesday in Sacramento is expected to be 83 degrees.

Lawn alternatives: Learn about converting your lawn to drought-tolerant plants during a water conservation workshop from 7 to 8:30 pm. today at the West Sacramento Community Center, 1075 W. Capitol Ave. Taylor Lewis from the UC Davis Arboretum will explain lawn conversion options. The city of West Sacramento , the Sacramento Valley Urban Forest Council and the Yolo Resource Conservation district are sponsoring the event.

Attention, Folsom drivers: Folsom police warn motorists that a portion of Folsom-Auburn Road will be closed from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. today to allow removal of a tree that poses a safety concern. Sacramento Municipal Utility District crews will remove a gray pine tree that is leaning at a 45-degree angle over traffic lanes, with power and phone lines running through the tree’s canopy. All southbound lanes will be closed, and northbound lanes will remain open with construction zone speed limits in effect.

Davis park fest: A Picnic in the Park is scheduled from 4:30 to 8:30 p.m. today at the Davis Farmers Market in Davis’ Central Park, Third and Fourth streets. There will be live music, restaurant booths, bounce houses, a rock-climbing structure, a bike-powered carousel and more.

Author to sign books: Sacramento author Elizabeth Varadan will read from and sign copies of her new novel, “Imogene and the Case of the Missing Pearls,” from 7 to 8 p.m. today at Time Tested Books, 1114 21st St., Sacramento.

Republic FC hits the road: Sacramento Republic FC will take on host Real Monarchs Salt Lake City at 6 p.m. today.
