Thursday showers: Showers in Sacramento began around 5 a.m., wetting the pavement and prompting thoughts of not leaving the house without at least a light jacket. In the mountains, chain controls were in place on Highway 80 at Kingvale as snow fell Thursday morning. A chance of showers is predicted throughout the day in Sacramento.
Walk this way: Kaiser Permanente’s Walk to Thrive walking club resumes at 11:45 a.m. today at Sixth Street and Capitol Mall in Sacramento when the Capitol Mall Farmers Market reopens for the season. By walking a mile with a Kaiser Permanente physician, downtown employees can step away from their desks, get exercise, health information and produce. Participants can register for the walking club at the Kaiser Permanente booth on Thursdays, or sign up online.
Night with the museums: Community members can meet, mix and mingle with the leaders of the local museum community tonight. The annual Sacramento Association Museum Reception will take place from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Aerospace Museum of California, 3200 Freedom Park Drive in McClellan.

Jazzy Thursday: If you want to hear jazz, head out to either American River College or Sacramento State tonight. The American River College Jazz Collective and several jazz combos, directed by Dyne Eifertsen, will perform a concert of original songs and jazz standards at the college, 4700 College Oak Drive. At CSUS’ Music Recital Hall, 6000 J St., the Sacramento State Jazz Ensembles, along with the Rio Americano High School Jazz Ensemble, will perform from 8 to 9:30 p.m.
Postseason tourney: The Big Sky Tournament for softball begins today at Idaho State University in Pocatello. Sacramento State, which finished in second place in the conference regular season, will play Weber State, Big Sky third-place finishers, at 3 p.m.
