AM Sacramento: Here’s what you need to know for Sunday
Happy Mother’s Day. Here’s what you need to know today, Sunday, May 10, 2015:
Sunny day: It will be a good day to take mom out for breakfast, brunch or dinner, as the Sacramento region will enjoy a good dose of sunshine. Clear skies and warm temperatures are dominating the forecast. Downtown Sacramento is expected to reach 80 degrees today, according to the National Weather Service. Dry weather will continue for much of next week.
Salute to moms: The American incarnation of Mother’s Day was created by Anna Jarvis in 1908. She wanted to honor her late mother, Ann Jarvis, who had started a committee in 1868 to establish “Mother’s Friendship Day” to reunite families after the Civil War. Mother’s Day became an official U.S. holiday in 1914.
