Graduation day for CHP canines
Six California Highway Patrol dogs and their handlers will graduate Friday at the CHP Academy in West Sacramento after 11 weeks of training. It marks the first graduation this year for canines trained in apprehending criminals and detecting drugs.
Entrepreneurs pitch education tech products
Local entrepreneurs will make and launch new products for the education technology market Friday at Startup Weekend EdTech Sacramento. The event starts at 6:30 p.m. at The Urban Hive, 1931 H St., and continues through Sunday. Participants will design, prototype and create business plans with the hope of launching a startup business.
Local leaders receive Hunger Heroes awards
Local organizations, businesspeople and elected officials will be honored at the Hunger Heroes award breakfast at 9 a.m. Friday at the River City Food Bank, 1800 28th St. in Sacramento. This year’s honorees are Capital Public Radio and Dr. Zoey Goore, a Kaiser Permanente pediatrician. State Sen. Richard Pan and Sacramento City Councilman Steve Hansen will also receive awards.

- Cripple Creek Band is one of five musical acts performing at the free Concerts in the Park 2015 series in Cesar Chavez Plaza. The event runs from 5 to 9 p.m. at 901 I St., Sacramento.
- The Rocklin Community Festival continues Friday from 4 to 11 p.m. featuring live music, carnival rides, a food court and craft fair. The event runs through Sunday. Johnson-Springview Park, 5480 Fifth St., Rocklin.
