The story of the East Area Rapist is still developing, with many unanswered questions and mysteries surrounding his reign of terror that started more than 40 years ago.

That story will get even more nationwide exposure Friday night, via a televised special.

Former cop Joseph James DeAngelo, the suspect arrested last month as the suspected East Area Rapist/Golden State Killer/Original Night Stalker, will be the subject of Friday evening's "20/20" on ABC.

The hourlong episode will see correspondent Whit Johnson explore DeAngelo's background and spree of murder and rape, according to online episode descriptions. It'll also feature features with attack survivors and people involved in the DNA investigation that brought the suspect to his arrest.

"20/20" airs at 10 p.m. local time in the Sacramento region, on ABC. Check with your provider for channel listings and other info.
