Children rescued, search underway for father in rescue near Isleton
A search is underway for a father who jumped into the Delta after his son fell out of a boat near Isleton on Friday afternoon, according to the Sacramento County Sheriff’s Department.
The man and his two children were boating when his 1-year-old son fell out of the boat wearing a life vest, Sgt. Shaun Hampton said. The man’s 10-year-old daughter called 911 at around 11:30 a.m. Friday and told dispatchers her father had jumped in the river without a life jacket to save the boy, a news release from the department said.
The 911 dispatcher worked with the girl to confirm the location of the boat, which was later located by the Coast Guard, the release said. The girl was rescued from the boat and brought to safety.
Shortly after his sister was located, law enforcement officials found the 1-year-old boy, who did not have a pulse at the time, the release said. Hampton said he was transported to an area hospital where is currently in “serious condition”, according to the release.
Law enforcement officials – including Sacramento County Sheriff’s deputies, California Highway Patrol officers, Contra Costa County Sheriff’s deputies and the Coast Guard – are still in the area searching for the childrens’ father, who has been identified as a 41-year-old man of Asian descent.
“We’re going to be out here for quite some time searching for him, the river here is extremely wide,” Hampton said Friday afternoon.
The incident was reported near Brannan Island Road in south Sacramento County. As of 1 p.m., one fire engine, a jet ski and a fire chief were at the scene with Rio Vista Fire.
